On Saturday, November 4th, Reebok Crossfit MeWellness (Shanghai) was hosting the annual edition of the Barbells for Boobs event to continue to raise awareness for breast cancer.
This day was the opportunity to have some fun training with our big community but above all to defend a great cause.
Relieve the event with us!
What is Barbells for Boobs?

Whether you’ve been personally affected, or have a relative who has battled cancer; it’s tougher than any WOD we’ll ever do.
According to Barbell for Boobs, 1 out of 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime, 7% will be under the age of 40. No one is immune to breast cancer. Thanks to early detection, treatment, and support, many are able to fight it valiantly.
“Barbells for Boobs” is dedicated to taking action in breast cancer through promoting early detection of breast cancer while also helping individuals gain access to testing and treatment centers.
The event
CrossFit is a major pillar for promoting and preaching a healthy lifestyle. That’s why events like that are organized everywhere in the world. They happen around October and gather a lot of athletes to workout together and to raise some funds for the cause.
Before the traditional Grace workout, we started the day by a nice 40 min team wod in a conga-line style:
By team of 4 :
AMRAP 40′
- 400m run
- 10 cal row
- 10 burpees
- 10 Goblet squat (32/24 lbs)
- 10 sit-up
- 10 plate Ground to Overhead (45/25 lbs)
- 10 D-Ball clean over the shoulder (75/45 lbs)

After this intense first part and a well-deserved coffee, the famous Grace was waiting for us.
For those who don’t know this nice girl, Grace is a benchmark killer composed only of 30 Clean & Jerk. Fast and Fatal.

As more than 30 athletes were attending the event, we created 3 heats. In each heat, young and old athletes, rookies and more experienced one, RX and scaled were mixed up. Everyone was here to show their common support to the cause.
After a quick warm-up, athletes of each heat gave their best on the amazing Grace and showed a lot of strength and determination. As a result, everyone finished it under 5’ which is truly amazing!
Kevin completed it RX (135lbs) in 2:28 and it took me 3:58 to complete it RX (95 lbs).
I’m particularly proud of this result as I did Grace exactly one year ago for the 2016 edition of Barbell for Boobs. Back then it took me more than 5 min to complete it at 65 lbs. Looks like hard work pays off!
Thanks to everyone’s energy and implication in the event, we’ve been able to raise over 10,000 RMB (1500$) for More Than Aware and the Shanghai Cancer Recovery Club during the 2017 edition.
